Kanchenjunga Expedition Full Board Spring- (8,586m)

The third highest summit of the world Mount Kanchenjunga (8586m) consisting of four summits was first conquered by a British Team in 1956. It is also the second-highest peak of Nepal after Mount Everest (8848m). This mountain is popularly known as the west summit, Yalung Kang, 8420m high, while some people even classify it as a separate 8000m peak.

The first westerner to explore the amazing mountain Kanchenjunga was a British botanist J.D. Hooker. Exploration of the peak from the Sikkim side starting from Darjeeling in British India was continued by the British explorers mapping and photographing until 1899. A party led by Douglas Fresh Field made a circuit of Kanchenjunga in that year and produced a map of this region which is considered to be the most authentic maps till today.

Dr. A.M Kellas contributed a lot to western knowledge about this region. During the approach of the 1921 Everest expedition, Kellas was died in Tibet. German expeditions tried to climb this peak in 1929, in 1930, and again in 1931, but could not succeed. Even after the restriction in the Sikkim entrance, the Nepal entrance was still open. Then a team in 1955 led by Dr. Charl as Evans approached the peak via the Yalung Glacier.

Then Japanese accepted the challenge and mounted expeditions in 1967, 1973, and 1974. A German Expedition climbed Yalung Kang in 1975, and an Indian army team also made the second successful expeditions to the main peak of the amazing mountain, Kanchenjunga.
