Kanchenjunga Expedition Full Board Autumn- (8,586m)

Situated at an elevation of 8586mMount Kanchenjunga with four summits is the third highest peak in the world and the second-highest in Nepal after Mount Everest (8848m). It was first successfully conquered by a British team in 1956. The west summit, Yalung Kang, 8420m high, and some people also classify it as a separate 8000m summit.

The first westerner to explore this amazing peak Kanchenjunga was a British botanist J.D. Hooker. He visited the area twice in 1848 and in 1849. Until 1899, the Expedition from the Sikkim side of the peak was continued by the British explorers mapping and photographing the peak. In that year a party led by Douglas Fresh Field made a whole circuit of Kanchenjunga in that very year. Later they produced a map of the Kanchenjunga region which is considered to be the most authentic maps in the present days as well.

Sikkim side starting from Darjeeling in British India is the best way to explore this mountain. Dr. A.M Kellas is a major contributor to Western knowledge about the region who later died in Tibet during the approach of the Everest expedition in 1921. German expeditions continuously tried to conquer kanchenjunga in 1929, 1930, and again in 1931 howevr failed. Nepal entrance was still open even after the restriction in the Sikkim entrance.

An Expedition team led by Dr. Charl as Evans approached the peak via the Yalung Glacier in 1955. Then the Japanese team accepted the challenge and mounted this amazing peak in 1967, 1973, and 1974. And become successful in 1975. At the same time, German Expedition also climbed Yalung Kang. An Indian army team also made the successful expedition to this peak.
