Full board ChoOyu 8201meter Expedition spring 2017

Monterosa treks and Expedition has been organizing Expedition to the mountains like, Everest, Cho Oyu, Shishapangma, Lhakpari and others from Tibet side since 1998. Mount Cho Oyu was first climbed by Austrians in 1954 followed by Indian and German. Mostly, mount Cho Oyu expedition is done from Tibet side due the easy climbing technique route.

Meeting and climbing information: After your arrival at Kathmandu Airport, our staffs will welcome you and guide you to hotel. On the next day, we organize an introduction program about mount Cho Oyu Expedition with other climbing members & Expedition crews. Since then we work on processing your necessary documents and Tibet visa.

After 3 day of your arrival, you will be driven towards Nepal Tibet border. We stay one night in Shybrubesi and 4 day drive takes us to Rasuwa Gadi, Kerung Bridge where the Chinese liaison officer and Chinese transportation will be waiting for us. Loading all our expedition gears on truck, we drive via Land cruiser 4wd or with comfortable Minibus to reach Zonkha (3000m) where we spend one night. Next day, we drive to Tingri (4340m) where we spend further two nights acclimatizing. From Tingri, we drive to Base camp (5000m) along the bumpy rough way.

We set up our camp at Chinese Base Camp and stay two or more nights as per our choice. We also arrange Yak schedules by that time. Base camp is a temporary but comfortable camp with tasty food served by our Nepali cook. From there, we walk for two days to reach Advance Base Camp (ABC). There is the high pass called Nangpa La, an old but still used yak track trading route between Nepal and Tibet.

ABC is the major base camp and we plan to stay there for the longer duration also to wait for the favorable situation to move on. We provide single tent to every climbers till here but after this you should manage all services at your own.

Our real mountaineering begins from camp 1 Camp 1 (6400m). The ridge is now soft and easy enough for climbing, then it broadens out and you should climb successive huge steps, several of which probably require fixing a rope in cooperation with other expedition members at the mountain.

Mount Cho Oyu Panorama from Summit Camp 2 is on the edge of a large plateau at 7125m although you can carefully assess to put the rope where. You may approach peak from here if you think you are well prepared or you may establish a light Camp 3 across the plateau and up on a minor ridge at 7550m.

You should start early in the morning from camp 3 for summit. Above the rock bands, the slopes are still steep and you may take a line to fix there, depending on conditions, however once you are on the crest of this ridge the terrain is straightforward to the summit plateau. Now, you are atop of Mount Cho Oyu.

The scenery of Mount Everest 8848m, mount Lhotse 8501m, mount Nuptse 7855m, mount Chamlang 7319m, mount Ama Dablam 6856m and other peaks of the Everest region to the east and south are amazing from the peak of Mount Cho Oyu. To the west, there is the mount Melungtse and mount Gauri Sankar massifs and to the north is all Tibet area. To descend down is via the same normal route down to ABC. It is normal to descend to Camp 2 from summit and to continue down to the ABC. The legend says that in Tibetan language, ‘Chomo’ means the ‘goddess’ and ‘Yu’ means the ‘turquoise’ hence the meaning of this mountain becomes Turquoise Goddess.
