Full board Cho Oyu 8201meter Expedition autumn 2017

Mount Cho Oyu (8201m) is the sixth highest peak of the world. The first to step on the peak of this mountain were Austrians in 1954. Then, The Indian and German team also climbed this peak in 1958 and 1964 respectively. Since then, this peak has become one of the most popular mountaineering destinations. Mostly, Cho Oyu Expedition is preferred from Tibet side because of its easy technique route. Monterosa Treks and Expedition has been organizing mountaineering of this peak along with several other peaks like, Everest, Cho Oyu, Shishapangma, Lhakpari and others since 1998.

Meeting and climbing information: As soon as you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport of Kathmandu, our staffs will welcome you and escort you to hotel. On the next day, there will be an orientation about the expedition with other climbing members & Expedition crews. Since then we work out for your Tibet visa and other necessary document for Cho Oyu Expedition.

On the third day, we drive you towards Nepal-Tibet border up to the Friendship Bridge via Prithvi Highway, Trisuli Highway and finally Pashang Lhamu Highway. Shybrubesi will be the first place for our night stay. Then, we drive to Rasuwa Gadi, Kerung Bridge where the Chinese liaison officer and Chinese transportation will be waiting for us. The expedition gears go by truck but the members get into the Land cruiser 4wd or comfortable Minibus and start travelling. Zonkha (3000m) is a place for one night acclimatization and next day we drive to Tingri (4340m) and spend further two nights acclimatizing. Driving on a rough bouncy road, we reach to Base camp (500m) .We set up our camp at Chinese Base Camp and stay two or more nights as per our decision. We also prepare Yak schedules by that time. Base camp is a temporary but comfortable where our Nepali cook serve delicious food for us. From here, we walk for two days to extend up to Advance Base Camp (ABC). Mount Cho Oyu Summit ABC is surrounded by celestial peaks. The high pass called Nangpa La is also there nearby which is an old but still used yak track trading route between Nepal and Tibet.

ABC is the main base camp and we plan to stay there for the longer duration waiting the favorable situation for our expedition. Every person gets his or her own tent. As our service will be full board up to ABC, every climber will get his/her own tent but after that they should manage all services by themselves privately.

Camp 1 is situated on some ridge at 6400m from where our actual mountaineering starts. You may require rope fixing as the ridge broadens out climbing successive huge steps. You should fix a new rope cooperating with other expedition members on the mountain. Normally one-one rope is used for ascent-decent purpose.

Mount Cho Oyu prospect from Summit Camp 2 is on the edge of a large plateau at 7125m. As per your conditions and physical fitness you may attempt the summit from here, or you may establish a light Camp 3 across the plateau at minor ridge (7550m). Above Camp 3, there are two rocky steps where you should fix another set of ropes prior to our summit ascent. Finally, early in the morning, you approach summit from camp 3. The slopes are still steep above the rock bands and you may take a line to fix there. Once on the crest of this ridge the terrain is straight forward to summit stage.
The views of smiling snowy peaks like, Mount Everest 8848m, mount Lhotse 8501m, mount Nuptse 7855m, mount Chamlang 7319m, mount Ama Dablam 6856m, mount Melungtse, Mount Gaurisankhar and other peaks of the Everest region to the east and south is awesomely beautiful. To descend to camp 2 is normal following the same route back continue down to the ABC. In Tibetan language, the meaning of ‘Cho Oyu’ is ‘Turquoise Goddess’.
