Full Board Mt. Lhotse Expedition autumn 2017

In 1956, a Swiss expedition team conquered mount Lhotse in 1956. Its lower peak, Sometimes mount Lhotse Shar 8383m, is also considered a separate peak of 8000m. The meaning of Mount Lhotse is “South Peak as it is a part of the Everest massif, just to the south of Everest. The primary route to reach mount Lhotse is from Everest's South Col. But by 1955, despite the increasing activities on Mount Everest, Lhotse was still the highest pristine peak in the world. The first attempt on mount Lhotse was made by an international team in 1955. Erwin Schneider was one of the members of the party, who during this expedition, began to work on the first of the series of high-quality "Schneider maps of the Everest region". The same Swiss party that made the second climb of Everest in 1956 made the first climb of mount Lhotse from a camp just below the South Col. Mount Lhotse Shar was first successfully climbed by an Austrian expedition in 1970 after which Japanese, South Koreans, and Germans attempted from other routes. Some Polish and Italians also climbed the summit before the summit was conquered again by German expeditions in 1977.
